My A/C went belly up during a summer heat wave; turns out the problem was my elderly furnace. I bought a few fans :), then obsessively researched HVAC options and reviews. Shelby patiently walked me through some of the perplexing "solutions" that had been rigged up in the past in my older home and presented multiple options. Not only was he not pushy whatsoever and equally as concerned about immediate cost/comfort as with long-range planning, but he was visibly curious and excited to tackle this monster. He is WAY into HVAC, proud of his work, and made it pretty clear from the start that he was a conscientious, hard worker and would stick with it until he got it right. I am so happy to have found him and he comes with my highest recommendation.

Once it was determined that I needed a new furnace, Shelby came out to my historic home twice just to plan how to best maximize my air flow.  We walked through the house together and he explained my options to increase heat on my first floor ? where we rarely spent time in winter months because it was so cold.  As we talked, I could see Shelby was getting more & more excited about planning a solid fix for my unique situation and 100-year old, 3-story home.   He noticed some extra improvements to the vent work in the basement that could be easily re-worked as part of the job. We decided to add two additional heat registers in my living room.  Shelby explained that he would do the job however I wanted it done and how much each improvement we considered would cost.  All the while he gave me his professional insights.  He let me take the time to research historic register covers to match the craftsman style of my home.  He explained that if I scheduled the work during his slow time, he would give me a good discount.  However, he did not pressure me at all.  I decided to go with A-1 because of Shelby’s obvious passion for doing a quality job, his clear communication, creativity, and his belief in the brand of furnace he would install. The night he and his co-worker finished up the 2-day replacement job, I was actually able to sit in my living room and read a book!  It was 18 degrees outside.  I feel as though I got the first floor of my house back! His thorough planning and detailed explanations carried through to the quality of his work and attention to detail throughout the entire process.  They are master ?sheet metal shapers?- if that is such a thing.  They cleaned everything up and hauled away the old furnace and all other trash. The final price was exactly on estimate.  They explained what kind and when I should replace the filter and how I should open/close the vents to direct the air flow in different seasons. I will definitely have Shelby back every Spring and Autumn to be sure the heating & cooling of my home is optimized now that I have a top-quality heating system installed.  Thanks to Shelby, the value of my historic home and the comfort of living in it have been improved.  I trust KC Air Doc to maintain it.

Shelby was not the first repairman I called, but he will be the last. Had a miserable day and night with the A/C not working.  First thing in the morning started calling around to see if I could get someone out to look at it.  Everyone was too busy even for an evening look.  When I called Shelby and explained the situation to him he said he would find away to get to me that day, just be a little patient.  Next he told me to immediately turn off my A/C incase it had frozen up at all, there should hopefully be no ice build up left.  He arrived a few hours later and was able to tell me exactly what had happened.  He went ahead and did maintenance work while he was here, advised me that I would probably need to replace my fan sooner than later, gave me a fair quote and zero pressure to replace it now.  Both are still running great. Shelby offers a maintenance plan for Hvac units and I quickly signed up. Now the only maintenance I have to remember is changing the filter each month.  Thank you Shelby for being able to get here that day and for putting up with and answering all my questions.
